The joint work of Peruvian and Chinese Legislative powers is important because it will "enable to consolidate the agreements reached between both countries," said the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China, Zhang Dejiang, on Friday.

During a work visit to the facilities of the Peruvian Congress, Zhang was welcomed with high honors by its Chairwoman, Ana Maria Solorzano.

The highest-ranked Chinese Congress official was accompanied by members of his delegation and China's Ambassador to Peru, Huang Munhui.

He confirmed his visit illustrates the desire to achieve a better cooperation between both nations. "It [cooperation] is important, in order to introduce the agreements reached between the heads of state of our countries," he expressed.

Zhang Dejiang remembered the Peruvian President, Ollanta Humala, held a meeting with him in Beijing ten days ago. The gathering was part of an official visit.

"I want to share with the members of the [Peruvian] Congress the idea to encourage a higher cooperation development between China and Peru, which includes strengthening the exchange of governance experiences and the functions of public authorities," he said.

The Chinese guest noted this is the first time a Chairman of the National People's Congress of China makes an official visit to Peru, which "seeks to reach the consensus achieved by both countries' Presidents during the past meetings, in order to motivate the higher advance of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership that joined the two nations."

Later on, he remembered Peru signed a Free Trade Agreement with China in 2009. As a result, trading showed a large growth reaching US$ 15 billion.

Because of this, Peru "is one of the most important trading partners" and "represents an important export market," he explained.

Additionally he claimed China supports Peru's execution of the COP20 event.

Zhang Dejiang was granted the Medal of Honor in the Grade of Grand Cross by Congress.

During the late afternoon, President Ollanta Humala and Mr. Zhang met at the Palace of Government.
Topics concerning the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and its economic outcome were addressed.

Bilateral agreements regarding health and education were also assessed.
