The President of Peru’s Central Reserve Bank (BCR) Julio Velarde today hailed the fact that political differences in Peru barely affect the performance of its economy.
“It has always been a surprise to many analysts how political factors seem to slightly affect the performance of the Peruvian economy,” he stated.
He said credit rating agency Moody's once warned of the potential influence of president Alejandro Toledo decline in popularity on the economy.
“At the time, we used to be the only country with a growth rate higher than that of the president’s popularity,” Velarde commented.
On the other hand, the BCR governor revealed there is not a radical candidate that is likely to win the 2016 elections so far.
He continued: “I do not mean to be definitive, what I am trying to say is that the impact has been relatively limited in the recent past.”
