According to archaeologist Ruth Shady, the main expert on this ancient civilization, all Caral urban sites in Supe valley were built in high locations, which guarantees their preservation.
"They are not in danger," she told Andina news agency.
Urgent works
On the other hand, the specialist affirmed sites in jeopardy are the ones close to current riverside population centers. High river flows have mainly affected the site's access route.
Shady also referred to assistance obtained for the implementation of Caral's master plan over five years ago.
In this sense, the Peru-France Countervalue Fund provided resources required for imperative works, like the canalization of Supe River.
Lastly, the archaeologist stressed the need to reforest riverside woods as part of preservation works in the area.
Supe valley houses 25 Caral archaeological sites. The Sacred City of Caral-Supe was added to UNESCO's World Heritage List in 2009.
