The Development Bank of Latin America (CAF) has habilitated a US$300-million credit line for post-disaster reconstruction works and victims assistance in Peru, its Director Representative in Peru Eleonora Silva informed.
"We have a US$300-million [credit] facility to address natural disasters. We reiterated to the President [Kuczynski] that 50% of said facility could be immediately disbursed," she explained.
The official noted the loan shall be governed by the same terms and conditions set for CAF partner countries.
The financial institution is open to participate in any reconstruction financing Peru requires, said Silva.
Non-refundable cooperation
CAF also offered a US$100,000 contribution to Peru to address climate-related emergencies.
"We offered US$100,000 of technical cooperation for [climate disaster] reconstruction. We have already notified the Economy and Finance Ministry, so we are waiting for their instructions. It is non-refundable, it's a donation," she pointed out.
Eleonora Silva participated in the conference "Working with CAF: Infrastructure opportunities in Latin America." The event was organized by the British Embassy in Lima, the United Kingdom Department for International Trade and CAF.
The announcement follows a recent meeting between CAF Executive President Enrique Garcia, President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski and Economy-Finance Minister Alfredo Thorne.
