Brazilian club Flamengo officially announced this morning it has signed Peruvian striker Paolo Guerrero on a three-year contract, two days after his departure from Corinthians was confirmed.

“The arrival of Guerrero is a great achievement for Flamengo. He has proven to be a natural goal scorer everywhere he has gone. I wish our new forward much success,” the club’s President Eduardo Bandeira de Mello stated.

The red-and-black club made a great economic effort to sign the Peruvian, taking into account its austerity policy implemented for this season.

With the signing, the club seeks to overcome the severe crisis it is going through in the local championship, where it remains in the relegation zone.

According to international media, Flamengo’s first strategy is to pay him a monthly salary of US$190,000, higher than what he earned at Corinthians (US$150,000)

On Thursday, Guerrero arrived in Lima to join Peru's soccer squad training session under coaching of Ricardo Gareca, with a view to their participation at 2015 Copa America tournament.
