Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff today announced she will attend the July 28 inauguration of Ollanta Humala Tasso as Peru’s new president.
The announcement came during Rousseff's meeting with visiting President-elect Ollanta Humala, who is on a five-nation South American tour following his victory in Sunday's presidential election.
According to newspaper Folha de São Paulo, "Dilma Rousseff confirmed her presence in the inaugural ceremony in Lima on July 28."
Special Advisor on International Affairs of the Brazilian Presidency, Marco Aurelio Garcia, said Rousseff and Humala spoke about the integration program of the Ministries of Justice and Defense to protect the borders.
"The two also talked about projects to extend the Sivam and Sipam systems to the Peruvian Amazon in order to combat drug trafficking," Folha de São Paulo cited Garcia as saying.
He added that bilateral cooperation "will be restricted to technical cooperation for various programs in the neighboring country."
