The Brasilia-based Peruvian embassy hosted a reception on the occasion of the 193rd anniversary of Peru’s Independence from Spain, event that also saw the launch of the official postage stamp that honors the two countries' relationship.

During the event, held on July 29, some 700 attendees took part in the ‘postmark’ launch ceremony of the Peru-Brazil postage stamp, which depicts images of Machu Picchu archeological sanctuary in Cusco and Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro.

The official launch of the stamp -in charge of ambassador Jorge Bayona and the vice president for business development of the Brazilian Post and Telegraph Company- marks the final stage of its release commemorating the tenth anniversary of “Strategic Alliance” between the two nations.

President Ollanta Humala and his Brazilian counterpart Dilma Rousseff presented the postage stamp honoring the two countries’ strong bilateral relations during an official visit the Brazilian leader made to Peru in Novermber 2013.

After the ceremony, attendees were delighted by the renowned Peruvian cuisine served as part of the “Festival of Seven Gastronomic Wonders of Peru,” which featured delicious traditional dishes, among which the most popular were those created by Afro-Peruvians like anticuchos and picarones.

It is worth mentioning that the event brought together acclaimed Peruvian Chefs living in Brazil such as the distinguished cook Marco Espinoza, owner of Peruvian restaurant ‘Taypá’.
