Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski and Ecuadorian counterpart Lenin Moreno signed the Declaration of Trujillo marking the end of the 11th Binational Cabinet held in Peru's northern city of Trujillo on Friday.

The leaders reaffirmed their willingness to keep working on the integration of their peoples by adopting a common agenda geared towards comprehensive and sustainable development, particularly in border areas.

Likewise, they underscored the importance of continuing to hold such sessions, as they strenghten dialogue, coordination, and cooperation between nations.

Both Heads of State also agreed to join efforts in order to achieve the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals.

In this sense, each country's government will adopt measures to eradicate poverty, ensure access to water, health, education and energy, as well as to tackle climate change, reach gender equality and, primarily, care for vulnerable populations.

Also, both presidents will support the development of border basins with the purpose of achieving the sustainable use of water resources, and thus keep providing drinking water to as many people as possible.

Lastly, the governments reiterated their firm commitment to the implementation of Puyango-Tumbes Binational Project (PBPT), whose execution will directly benefit citizens from both countries.

This year's Binational Cabinet edition covered five main thematic axes: (i) Social and Cultural Affairs; (ii) Production and Trade; (iii) Energy, Mining and Environmental Issues; (iv) Infrastructure and Connectivity; as well as (v) Security and Defense.

It must be noted Binational Cabinets constitute a mechanism for political dialogue between two nations with the purpose of working on specific issues of common concern included in the bilateral agenda.
