Australian Ambassador to Peru Nicholas McCaffrey underlined the strengthening and expansion of bilateral ties with the Inca country thanks to high-level visits of Peruvian officials to his homeland this month.
In this sense, the diplomat informed Peruvian Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Eduardo Ferreyros will meet with Australian counterpart Steven Ciobo in Canberra next week.
Both officials will discuss ways to reinforce the nations' economic and trade relations.
Conference
In this context, Peruvian Deputy Mines Minister Ricardo Labo attended Latin America Down Under, Australia's No. 1 mining conference focused on the region.
At the event, the government official presented Peru's mining opportunities and met with investors interested in the Andean nation.
Latin America Down Under was held on May 16-19 in Perth, featuring ministers and representatives of the largest mining companies.
Ambassador McCaffrey affirmed Ferreyros' and Labo's visits show both governments are deeply interested in forging closer ties in traditional sectors like mining and trade.
Likewise, he added said interest also extends to new areas like education, infrastructure and water.
It is worth noting the growing number of Australian citizens visiting Peru has hit a new record: over 42,000 in 2016.
"More than 90 Australian companies are currently investing in Peru's economy," McCaffrey pointed out.
Over the last two years, a total of ten Australian Ministers have visited Peru. The list includes Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, who visited Lima last November to attend the APEC Forum's Summit.
