ASPA Summit to strenghten Unasur, Arab League relation

20:58 | Lima, Sep. 29 (ANDINA).

The Third Summit of South American and Arab Countries (ASPA), to be held in Peru on 1 and 2 October, will be an opportunity for "a new approach" between South American and Arab leaders, the Brazilian government said Saturday.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil noted that the event will strengthen South-South cooperation and confirmed President Dilma Rousseff's participation in the event.

"It is a pioneering and innovative mechanism for negotiations and cooperation between the two areas," said a statement released Saturday.

Most of South American heads of state and several leaders of the Arab League have confirmed their participation.

The first summit was held in May 2005 in Brazil, and the second summit in March 2009 in Qatar.
