Women Ministers and other senior officials will gather in Peru to participate in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum's Women and Economy Meeting to be held in Lima on June 27th-30th, 2016, Women and Vulnerable Populations Minister Marcela Huaita informed.

Under the motto "Breaking barriers to integration of women in the global market," this event seeks to make progress with regard to female participation in the economy.

According to the official, this event aims to reinforce the articulation of policies and programs under a gender approach through APEC's several forums and working teams.

It must be noted APEC gathers the world's 21 largest economies and promotes free-trade across the Asia-Pacific region, as well as boosts economic integration.

The said meeting will address the following topics: Care systems aimed at breaking barriers towards an inclusive development, costs of gender-based violence to economic development, mechanisms for the internationalization of micro-, small- and medium-sized enterprises led by women, among others.

In this sense, the portfolio has appointed a sectoral working team to ensure the organization and thematic development of both meetings.

On Friday, Peruvian President Ollanta Humala headed the launching ceremony of APEC Peru 2016, where he provided details of the forum's agenda.

APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting (AELM) will take place in Lima on November 19th - 20th, 2016.
