The Andean Parliament will support Peruvian migrants in an irregular situation in the United States, its Human Rights Commission affirmed.

To this end, the said institution will directly coordinate with all Peruvian consulates in the U.S. to better assist fellow nationals.

"A workgroup will be established to support Peruvians in the United States; we will seek to provide them with personalized assistance in their cases," said its Human Rights Commission Vice-President Jorge Romero.

Likewise, the legislator urged the government to implement new policies to back fellow nationals with irregular status, who account for nearly 40% of all Peruvians in the U.S.

In this respect, he proposed amending the ‘Law of Return’ (Law on Economic and Social Reintegration for Returned Migrants).

"The law should be revised and improved [...]," he suggested.
