Peru’s Interior Minister Jose Luis Perez Guadalupe opened a two-day meeting of police chiefs and delegates from 22 countries in the Americas in order to strengthen the fight against crime in the region.
Held in Trujillo, Peru, the Second Meeting of the Subsidiary Technical Working Group on Police Management began at 8:30 a.m. (1330 GMT) organized by the Organization of American States (OAS).
The objective of this international gathering is to strengthen capacities of American countries police forces in a bid to prevent and combat crime, violence and insecurity in the region, said the Chief General of the National Police of Peru, Romero Vicente Fernandez.
The said meeting takes place prior to the Fifth Meeting of Ministers Responsible for Public Security in the Americas (Mispa-V) –hosted by Peru and scheduled for November 19-20 in Arequipa city.
Police forces will focus on four thematic areas: Hemispheric cooperation on police training; police management and well-being; social transformations and new trends in violence and crime in the Americas and; the role of rapprochement towards the community and crime prevention.
