Congressional Caucus on Peru Co-Chairs, Senator Christopher Stewart (R-Utah), Representative Gregory Meeks (D-NY) and Peruvian Ambassador to the United States, Carlos Pareja held a working meeting to discuss bilateral issues at U.S. Congress headquarters.
The meeting served to review the regional situation in the hemisphere, as well as the positive projection and great potential offered by the relationship between both countries.
Senator Stewart and Rep. Meeks called Peru "a beam of light" in Latin America, which should merit more attention from the U.S. administration. Likewise, they expressed their desire to develop greater bilateral contacts, working on a common agenda that allows to identify topics and areas of shared interest and reciprocal benefit.
"Our country has the best will to enrich and diversify the bilateral agenda," Ambassador Pareja said at the end of the meeting. "We are extremely interested in promoting investment, improving education and infrastructure development," he added.
The diplomat also said that "Peru wants to position itself as a reliable partner for the United States, based on an absolute mutual trust that allows us to build a solid strategic partnership."
The Congressional Caucus on Peru is an association of U.S. legislators interested in cooperating closely with the Peruvian State to promote the strengthening of bilateral ties between both nations within the Capitol.
