16:39 Air traffic in Peruvian regions shows an upward trend in 1Q
 
Lima, May 06 (ANDINA). Passenger air traffic in seven major airports of Peruvian departments showed a remarkable increase during the first quarter of 2012, General Administration of Civil Aeronautics (DGAC) reported Sunday.

The seven airports include Cusco, Arequipa, Iquitos (Loreto), Tarapoto (San Martin), Trujillo (La Libertad), Piura and Chiclayo (Lambayeque).

Cusco transported a total of 376,113 passengers between January and March, a 14.3 percent increase compared to the same period in 2011.

Air traffic in Arequipa rose by 10.4 percent to 252,555 transported passengers in said period.

Moreover, the airports of Cusco and Arequipa, which are the two major Peruvian airports followed by Jorge Chavez international airport in Lima, transported by end-2011 a total of 1.6 million and 1 million people, respectively. 

Passenger air traffic in Iquitos grew 9.5%, Piura 17.5%, Tarapoto 17%, Trujillo 26.3% and Chiclayo 35.3%.
