Peru's Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (Promperu) indicates that agricultural and fishery products will be Peru’s passport into new markets promised by the Trans-Pacific Partnership—TPP deal.
“Our passport is agriculture and fisheries, a promotional strategy that has previously yielded good results for Peru,” said Luis Torres, Director of Exports Promotion at Promperu.
Peruvian agro-product export is recognized abroad thanks to its production level and business model, and this new deal provides an opportunity to take advantage of such aspects, mainly to small and medium farmers.
“It’s quite important that small and medium-sized producers are able to identify new crops (fruits and vegetables) that enjoy good demand and high profitability, so that they can be met in a 2-3 year timeframe,” he told Andina news agency.
Speaking from Berlin, Germany, where he attended Fruit Logistica 2016, Torres said Europeans highlight Peru's entry into the TPP, as it becomes part of a huge trade bloc.
This agreement offers good options for the manufacturing sector, mainly clothing, under the 'Alpaca del Peru brand' strategy, since such product adapts to high-end markets’ new development alternatives.
