The Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO) assures it will contribute with the success of the 20th Conference of Parties on Climate Change (COP 20) to be held in Lima, Peru on December 1-12.

ACTO, an intergovernmental organization composed of Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru, Surinam and Venezuela, provides a permanent forum of cooperation and knowledge exchange aimed at achieving sustainable development in the Amazon region.

In this sense, the organization’s Permanent Secretariat, chaired by ACTO General Secretary Robby Ramlakhan, has prepared a set of activities to highlight the importance of the South American Amazon in the global scenario of COP20, expected to gather delegates from 194 countries in the Peruvian capital.

ACTO’s participation in this conference will serve to promote actions of ACTO member nations in the Amazon region, reported Peru’s Foreign Ministry.

In addition, ACTO in conjunction with Brazil will be hosting a side event named “Monitoring of the Amazon Rainforest: a regional endeavor based on the Brazilian experience.”

Such an event will see the participation of Robby Ramlakhan and environment ministers from Brazil, Izabella Teixeira, and Peru, Manuel Pulgar-Vidal - the latter is current UNFCCC COP20 President.

It will take place on 10 December from 13:15 – 14:45 in the COP20 venue located at the Army headquarters in the San Borja district of Lima.

In addition to this, ACTO presented measures for the Amazon forest protection during an open forum held 7 Nov in Lima.
