6.3 magnitude quake felt in Tacna, southern Peru

An earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale was felt in the southern region of Tacna on Sunday afternoon.
According to Peru's Geophysical Institute, or IGP,  the tremor struck at 13:20 local time (18:20 GMT) and its epicenter was located at 208 kilometers (129.2 miles) south-west of Tacna

The quake had a depth of 45 kilometers (27.9) and an intensity of II on the Modified Mercalli scale in Tacna, IGP reported.

According to Civil Defense authorities, there have been no inmediate reports of damage or injuries so far from the quake. 

 Earthquakes are common in Peru because the country is located on the Pacific Ring of  Fire, one of the most active seismic areas in the world
