According to Peru's Geophysical Institute (IGP), the tremor shook at 00:07 hours (05:07 GMT) and its epicenter was at nine kilometers southeast Cerro de Pasco, capital of Pasco.
The intensity of the quake was felt at 3-4 MMI (Modified Mercalli Intensity) in Yanahuanca.
No damages or injuries have been reported so far, according to local authorities of Civil Defense.
Peru is geographically located in the so-called Ring of Fire Pacific Ocean, where 85 percent of global seismic activity occurs.
