The 25th Ibero-American Summit came to an end on Saturday evening following the approval of Cartagena Declaration.

Held annually since 1991, the event brings together Spain and Portugal with former Latin American colonies to discuss various common-ground issues.

The Summit is organized by the Ibero-American Secretariat General, in charge of implementing mandates and driving regional cooperation in education, social cohesion and culture.

Under the motto “Youth, entrepreneurship and education,” this year’s Summit aimed at promoting coordination to provide the young with further education and job opportunities across the said region, composed of 22 nations.

Following the closing ceremony, Colombia’s President Juan Manuel Santos and Ibero-American Conference Secretary-General Rebeca Grynspan officially transferred the bloc’s Pro Tempore Secretariat to Guatemalan President Jimmy Morales. Thus, the Central American nation will play host to the next edition of this major event.
