16 Peruvian regions jointly produce close to 80,000 tons of cocoa every year, National Commission for Development and Life without Drugs (Devida) Chairman Alberto Otarola stressed during the launching ceremony for the 7th Cocoa and Chocolate Salon.
Cocoa plantations cover a total area of 144,232 hectares, with an average yield of 759 kg per hectare.
Largest productions are registered in San Martin, Cusco and Junin regions.
The event will serve as mechanism to put on display over 2,500 Peruvian cocoa producers and chocolate makers' products' quality and varieties at Lima Convention Center's 120 stands.
Over 15,000 visitors will have the chance to taste and purchase thousands of products made from the world's finest cocoa.
Several activities are included in this edition. The exhibition salon, chocolate production process chain museum, cocoa contests and conferences are opportunities to spread information and establish contact networks among producers and purchasers.
The event will also serve to boost domestic consumption.
Attendees will be informed on benefits by boosting integration and internationalization of producer organizations and Peruvian enterprises.
The 7th edition of Cocoa and Chocolate Salon will be held on July 7th-10th, 2016 at Lima Convention Center.
