Lima, Jul. 28 (ANDINA). More than ten thousand Peruvians living in Washington, Maryland and Virginia celebrated the 187 Anniversary of Peru’s Independence with music, food, dance and paso horses, during the various festivals organized by Peruvian institutions established in the United States.
Despite the hot weather and rain, over five thousand Peruvians attended on Sunday noon the First Festival of Virginia called “El Sabor Peruano” (The Taste of Peru) in the esplanade of the Bull Run Regional Park in Fairfax County to enjoy an artistic journey and the best of Peruvian food.
In this place, Peruvian expats tasted some typical Peruvian dishes including cebiche, arroz con pollo, anticuchos (beef kebabs), seco con frijoles, chanfainita, chicharrones (pork rinds), and traditional desserts such as picarones, crema volteada and pionono.
The Peruvian consul in Virginia, David Vergara, gave the welcoming speech to mark the beginning of the festival which brought together not only Peruvians, but also people from other countries like Colombians, Bolivians, Ecuadorians, and Americans who in many cases were accompanied by their Peruvian wives.
The show continued with the performance of renown Peruvian artists like Agua Bella, Guiliana Rengifo and Bellas de Oro, Manuel Donayre, Dayan Aldana, Cholo Cirilo and the dancing group of "Mamauca" (Elena Barrueto), among others, who made the crowd dance, sing and laugh.
