Lima, Jun. 25 (ANDINA).- Peru’s Prime Minister Yehude Simon said Thursday that the Peruvian Government rejects violence as a method of protest, and reaffirms its commitment to dialogue aimed at achieving national reconciliation and the country’s development.
During the interpellation on tragic events in Bagua, Amazonas, Simon said that even if the government understands the historical tensions between the State and certain sectors of the society, it does not mean it will accept the chaos and anarchy.
"It does not mean we will turn a blind eye to historic isolation attempting to destabilize the democratic regime and impede the country's progress."
The blocking of roads is considered a crime involving violence and isolation of cities, as a conventional war strategy.
However, considering the circumstances like those experienced in Bagua, which left more than 30 dead people during a confrontation between natives and police, the government needed to apply wisdom to prevent deaths from radical groups, who wanted to overthrow the democratic regime.
