Lima, Jun. 29 (ANDINA).- Peru's banana exports and its derivatives rose 28 percent during the January-May 2009, totaling 23.56 million dollars to 12 destinations, the Peruvian Exporters’ Association (Adex) announced Sunday.
The main of the five items exported is "Fresh Cavendish Valery Bananas," totaling 23.37 million dollars, which concentrated 99 percent of the total.
Peru also exported "Dried Bananas”, "Banana Flour, Semolina and Powder”, "The Other Bananas" and “Plantain Bananas”.
The two main destinations were the Netherlands (54 percent) and the United States (23 per cent).
Other destinations were Japan (2.5 million dollars), Belgic (1.08 million), Germany, United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, Switzerland, Chile and Italy.
New five markets for this products were reported Ireland, Canada and Portugal.
Loreto, San Martin, Ucayali, Piura Junin, Pasco, Amazonas and Tumbes are the main Peruvian regions producing this fruit.
The main exporting companies are Corporación Peruana de Desarrollo
Bananera, Bio Costa, Biorgánika , Inkabanana, Pronatur , Organia y la Central Piurana de Asociaciones de Pequeños Productores de Banano Orgánico, among others.
