First International Forum of Indigenous Women started in Lima

Lima, Apr. 15 (ANDINA).- The First International Forum of Indigenous Women, which gathers more than 200 leaders of the three Americas, began on Monday at the 9th floor of a modern hotel in San Isidro, Lima.
“This is a great opportunity to promote dialogue and exchange of experiences among Indigenous women of the region", said the hostess Tarcila Rivera, representative of the Peruvian organization Chirapaq, in the opening ceremony.
Indigenous Women face challenges in exercise their rights and this forum can contribute to strengthen the initiatives of articulation with other social movements and international cooperation.
This forum will tackle issues such as: Globalization and Indigenous Women, Indigenous Women and Human Rights, Indigenous Women and Building Alliances and Indigenous Movement: Advances and Challenges.
Native authorities, civil servants, leaders and congressmen of the three Americas arrived toPeru to participate in this event.
The president of Bolivia’s Constituent Assembly, Silvia Lazarte, and Rebeca Adamson, a member of the Cherokee Nation who was selected as “Women of the Year” for promote successful business among the indigenous communities.
