Lamud, Amazonas, Mar. 10 (ANDINA).- Two mummies were found in sarcophagi in the sector known as Ulle, Luya Viejo District, Luya province (Amazonas), Luya’s culture and tourism councilwoman, María Dolores Ramos Valqui, reported Tuesday.
"The sarcophagi had been looted, but one of the mummies was entire, the place of the finding is located in front of the Karajia archaeological complex. The mummies were wrapped in blankets and surrounded by pottery and mystic objects.” According Ramos, the mummies belong to the Chachapoyas culture, of the Luya Chillaos ethnic, and it is presumed that the remains found are those of an important chief, priest or soldier.
Currently, one of the mummies is in the museum of the Luya provincial municipality as custody, while local authorities are coordinating with the museum of Leymebamba for its permanent preservation.
The Luya Viejo Municipality prepares, in turn, the construction of a small museum since there are possibilities to continue finding new remains in various sectors where the first two mummies were found, Ramos said.
