Lima, Oct. 17 (ANDINA).- Two religious temples, dating to the Early Formative Period of the high civilization in Peru’s north, were found in Collud-Zarpán's archaeological complex, located two kilometers from the south of Pomalca's district, in Chiclayo's province (Lambayeque).
The director of the Royal Tombs of Sipan Museum, Walter Alva, unveiled today that this is the most important religious sanctuaries of the formative period and it was built around 3,000 or 2,000 years before the current age.
He pointed out that this temple is about 500 meters long and 200 meters wide, and has a 27-meter wide stairs.
"We are talking about one of the monuments built in the largest and most extraordinary period, the formative, which will explain and show the influence of Cupisnique and Chavin cultures", he said.
In addition, he stated that archeologists also found a mural in high relief representing an arachnid deity.
