Trujillo, Jul. 06 (ANDINA).- The Huaca de la Luna, one of the major tourist attractions in northern Peru, located in the district of Moche, near Trujillo (La Libertad), received a total of 42,780 visitors during the first half of the year, a 4 percent increase compared to the same period last year, local sources reported Monday.
According to the report released by the Peruvian National Institute of Culture (INC), 40,997 people, including foreign and domestic tourists, visited the monument during the first six months of 2008, whereupon the tourist flow increased 4 percent.
Both the investment made by private sector and the international cooperation have been vital for these achievements, which is reflected in the people’s enthusiasm to visit this archaeological monument, according to INC’s regional director in La Libertad, Enrique Sanchez Maura.
"In recent years, major works have been completed in Huaca de la Luna, such as excavation and restoration activities of the main areas. This was also vital to increase daily visits," he said.
Statistics show that most of the tourists visiting the monument are domestic (29,014) while foreign tourists accounted for 13,766.
