Alfonso Velasquez, president of Sierra Exportadora, said the institution is supporting mechanisms for the small producer in the Andes to also take advantage of the exporting boom originated by the FTAs.
He mentioned that their products are exported to 21 countries.
"Trout is exported to Europe and Asia, while the quinoa is exported to Europe and the U.S., for example, other Andean products are sent to Chile and Colombia," he added.
He went on to note that exporters of Andean products are targeting Asia as a destination market, especially Taiwan, China and Thailand, in a bid to offset lower demand from countries with fiscal problems.
"The trout is already in Taiwan and we are promoting it among Chinese entrepreneurs through oriental food," he said.
