Lima, Jun. 11 (ANDINA).- Peru’s President, Alan García Pérez, announced a promotion campaign for three important archaeological sites in Lima, which are the Huaca Mateo Salado, located in front of the Plaza de la Bandera Square in the boundaries of the districts of Lima, Breña and Pueblo Libre; Huaycán de Pariachi, in the immense district of Ate; and Pachacamac, also in the district of Ate.
During his visit to the Huaca Mateo Salado, the head of State pointed out that the recovery and restoration of these historical sites will help to rescue the millennial cultural force that ruled the city of Lima and attract greater numbers of tourists and students.
"An important part of our job is to promote the pre-Inca structures that exist in Lima and the true history of the Rímac Valley, which has been very important over the two thousand years of the city's history", he said.
President García explained that this archaeological complex was built around1000 AD and it bears the name of French Matew Salé who lived there from 1550 to 1560 before he was burned by the Inquisition for witchcraft.
The archaeological complex of Mateo Salado is composed by five monumental pyramids, built over a base of tapiales (big blocks of mud assembled together). Its present extension is of about 20 hectares.
About the Huaca Huaycán de Pariachi, the president said that its extension is about 69 hectares and he hopes to recover it in order to attract local and foreign tourists.
In addition, he pointed out that the restoration works have already begun in the Pachacamac Sanctuary.
