Lima, Jul. 28 (ANDINA).- In his annual address to the nation, Peruvian President Alan Garcia Perez has stressed the role of tourism as a key factor to boost the country's development and decentralization process, for which he call on promoting attractions like Chan Chan and Tucume Pyramids.
“As part of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism efforts in the first three years of administration, 5.3 million tourists have come to Peru attracted by wonders like Machu Picchu (Cusco),” he said.
However, he added, “we need to diversify our tourism product to other wonders like Kuelap (Amazonas), Chan Chan (La Libertad) or Tucume Pyramids (Lambayeque).”
The Head of State also noted that as part of the descentralization process, seventy percent of state budget funds was allocated to regional and local governments so that they can invest in new projects in their jurisdictions.
“Between 2005-2009, their resources have been tripled and they have been given key responsibilities and new machinery," he added.
