Lima, May 16 (ANDINA).- Ministry of Transports and Communications (MTC) said that during first 36 months of current government, the number of mobile phones increased 223.6%, reaching the figure of 21’874,216 cell phones in March 2009.
In that sense, MTC pointed out that mobile penetration went from 24.6 cell phones per 100 people in June 2006, to 75.8 cell phones per 100 people in March 2009.
In the framework of the World Telecommunication Day, MTC emphasized that they achieved the goal of provide mobile coverage to 195 districts that did not have fixed and mobile telephony.
With regard to Internet access, MTC said that broadband connection went from 404,400 connections to 747,235; from June 2006 to March 2009.
For next June, they expect the figure of broadband connections may reach 772,000 connections.
Ministry of Transports and Communications added that they continue developing important progresses in the telecommunication sector in order to reduce the digital gap and provide communication for Peruvians who live in the most remote areas of the country.
