Lima, Jun. 25 (ANDINA).- Accustomed to successfully overcome difficult aquatic challenges, Peruvian swimmer Ruben Medina fulfilled another of his goals after swimming with shackles on his feet from San Lorenzo island to Cantolao beach in La Punta, a distance of five kilometers.
Medina also known as “Titicaca’s Newt" departed from the San Lorenzo island at 12:15 hours and arrived at the Cantolao beach at 14:50 hours.
During the trip the guide vessel had to deviate from the initial route, after bumping into a mound of garbage, which impeded the progress of the swimmer.
The executive president of Autonomous Bi-national Authority of Lake Titicaca (ALT), Julián Barra Catacora, said that this activity called “From the Titicaca to the Pacific” was aimed to promote Lake Titicaca voting in the New 7 Wonders of Nature contest.
Currently, the Lake Titicaca and Amazon River and Rainforest top Group F (lakes, rivers and waterfalls) and Group E (forests, national parks and nature reserves), respectively, in the N7W of Nature campaign.
The Colca Canyon, located in Arequipa, stands second in Group D, which includes caves, rock formations and valleys.
