Lima, Jun. 30 (ANDINA).- Peru’s Foreign Minister Jose Antonio Garcia Belaunde expressed his willingness to talk with his Bolivian counterpart, David Choquehuanca, in order to strengthen bilateral ties affected by interference of La Paz in Peru’s internal affairs.
"I am pleased that Bolivia’s chancellor (Choquehuanca) has expressed willingness for dialogue, and am willing to do so," he said.
García Belaunde said he will seek to modify the program of activities to arrange a meeting with his Bolivian counterpart during the next summit of Non-Aligned Movement in Egypt.
Choquehuanca is seeking a possible meeting with Garcia Belaunde during the Non-Aligned Movement Summit, to be held on July 13-17 in Egypt, to overcome discrepancies observed in recent weeks.
"I find it very important that we can talk and create conditions for improving bilateral relations," he said after reporting that the controversy with Bolivia "is not contentious."
In recent weeks, Bolivia’s president, Evo Morales, said that the tragic event in the Peruvian Amazon was a genocide, and also told a Chilean newspaper that he was convinced the international court’s decision, regarding the maritime dispute, will be favorable to Chile.
These and other statements caused discomfort in Peru. The Peruvian ambassador to La Paz is currently in Lima, after being called in consultation by Torre Tagle.
