Lima, Jul. 02 (ANDINA).- The Peruvian Gastronomy Association (Apega) ruled out on Wednesday that the global financial crisis has affected consumers flow to 5-fork restaurants in Peru, because cuisine represents for Peruvians a shelter and the budget destined for this sector never changes.
Apega's president Gaston Acurio said that in 2009, the demand in restaurants of all kinds, including 5-fork restaurants, showed stable levels, without registering increases but neither a considerable drop.
“Unlike this, cities that depend on tourism such as Cusco or Puno, where I have some restaurants, felt the effects of international crisis, AH1N1 flu and social conflicts,” he said.
He pointed out that a similar situation happened in four- and five-star hotels, which suffered important drops due to social conflicts.
With regard to the average ticket, he said that Peru is the cheapest place on earth when eating in 5-fork restaurants.
“For example, a high cuisine ticket worldwide costs US$ 250, while in Peru is US$ 40. For casual cuisine (including Cebiche or Chinese food) the ticket costs US$ 20,” he added.
