Lima, Jun. 12 (ANDINA).- The number of departures of Peruvian citizens to another country was 172,940 in April, a 6.3% drop compared to the same month last year, according to the National Institute for Statistics and Information (INEI).
INEI reported that of this total, 51,2% were men and 48,8% women.
The main destination countries are Chile with 45.6%, Bolivia with 13.4%, the U.S. (11.5%), Ecuador (7%), Spain (4.2%), Argentina (3.5%) and Colombia (3.3%).
Regarding trips through Lima's Jorge Chavez International Airport, the U.S. was the main destination country with 29.9%, followed by Spain with 10.9%, Argentina (9%), Colombia (8.5%), Chile (7.2%), and Brazil (5.8%), among other countries.
On the other hand, 189,391 foreigners arrived to Peru in April 2009, a 0.7% increase versus a year ago.
The largest number of foreigners came from Chile (37.6%), followed by the United States with 15.7%, Bolivia (8.2%) Ecuador (7.6%), Spain (75.9%), Brazil (4.7%) and Colombia (4.6%), among others.
Of all the foreigners that visited Peru, 55.7 percent were men while 44.3 pct were women.
