In Pool G in Lima, Cuba defeated Korea 25-23, 18-25, 26-24, 25-17 to start the second round. Japan started the group with a 25-9, 25-15, 25-14 win over Tunisia.
In Pool H in Trujillo, Russia defeated Egypt 25-10, 25-20, 25-11 to open the second round, while Poland edged Serbia 25-21, 25-17, 14-25, 18-25, 15-11 in a thrilling five-set match lasting four minutes shy of two hours.
