Lima, Jul. 15 (ANDINA).- Short-stay tourism in Lima, in places such as Lunahuana and Canta, won’t be affected by AH1N1 flu during the National holidays, estimated today the Peruvian Association of Travel and Tourism Agencies (Apavit).
“Chincha, Pisco and Ica won’t be affected neither. These destinations will maintain a register similar to last year’s,” stated the head of Apavit, Publio Santander.
Some graduation trips for the end of July and beginning of August have been cancelled due to AH1N1 flu, which will affect tourism during the national holidays compared to last year’s.
Santander recalled that last year two million tourists traveled around the country during these dates.
“We had the expectation to get the same number or at least get close to it. The AH1N1 flu has generated some cancellations from some schools. It’s not easy to replace a school client with a normal one,” he told Andina.
However, he said that next week more information will be available about the total number of cancellations for the national holidays.
Likewise, he highlighted that the tourist destinations on the northern, southern and central part of the country, will maintain the level of tourist inflow of 2008.
“The tourism in Arequipa, Cusco, Puno, even Huaraz and Huancayo, as well as in Tarapoto will be stable,” he said.
