Lima, Jul. 30 (ANDINA). Exports of Peruvian chullos, hats made of wool, jumped 23 percent during first half 2009, totaling US$ 138,847, in relation to the same period last year, when shipments amounted to US$ 111,911, the Peruvian Exporters Association (Adex) reported Thursday.
Destination markets total 22 being France the main purchaser with US$ 37,516, a 76 percent rise compared to first half 2008 (US$ 21,278).
France was followed by the United States with US$ 23,915, almost 100 percent more than the number registered in January-June period 2008 (US$ 12,642).
Chile is in third place with shipments worth US$ 11,363, United Kingdom with US$ 9,325, Mexico with US$ 8,254 and Argentina with US$ 7,899, among others.
Adex said that Peruvian chullo has reached markets such as Canada, Norway, Austria, Holland and Switzerland.
All shipments were made by enterprises and craft workshops located in Lima, Puno, Tacna, Cusco, Tumbes, Arequipa, Ancash, Callao and Madre de Dios.
