Lima, Jun. 13 (ANDINA).- On the occasion of the 110th anniversary of Japanese immigration to Peru, Prince Hitachi, along with his wife Hanako, put this afternoon a flower arrangement on the Japanese Immigration Centennial Monument, located at the Campo de Marte in Lima.
Prince Hitachi, younger brother of the Japanese Emperor Akihito, met with Justice Minister Rosario Fernandez and other government and municipal authorities, in front of the historical monument.
This monument is known as the Friendship Bridge, as it represents this feeling between the two nations. Furthermore, the names of the first 790 Japanese immigrants who arrived at the port of Callao on April 3, 1899 in the Sakura Maru boat were engraved, in Spanish and Japanese, in the inner wall of the bridge.
This structure was opened by the Princess Sayazo of Japan on May 29, 1999 with the occasion of the centenary of the arrival of the first Japanese to our country.
At 18:30 (23:30 GMT), the members of the Japanese imperial family will hold a meeting with Peruvian President Alan Garcia in the Courtyard of Honor of the Government Palace.
Princes and Princess Hitachi pay an official visit to Peru on the occasion of the 110th anniversary of the Japanese immigration to Peru as well as the 20th anniversary of the Peruvian immigration to Japan.
