Lima, May 20 (ANDINA).- The first aircraft manufactured by Peruvian engineers will be presented Wednesday afternoon at the Second International Defense Technology Exhibition and Prevention of Natural Disasters (SITDEF) in Lima.
This military exhibition will be held on May 21-24 at the General Army Headquarters in San Borja district.
The Peruvian Air Force (FAP) will show the high technology level that it has reached through its operating units like the Maintenance Service (Seman).
Seman has manufactured the first aircraft "made in Peru" with all the advances in aeronautical engineering.
It took a year for this unit to finish the aircraft, which has six hours of flight autonomy and a four people capacity. It will be used for basic training of future pilots.
They called it Kuntur (Condor in Quechua language), in honor of the bird flying over the Peruvian Andes.
"This will lead us to manufacture more sophisticated aircrafts for training purposes and perhaps we can develop fighter planes in the future," said one of the officers who worked on this project.
The SITDEF is a commercial and cultural event which gathers national and foreign businesses in order to exhibit state-of-the-art technology by means of physical and virtual exhibition of products and services which will benefit our country and the region by providing modernization in defense technology.
A total of 90 companies from France, Canada, Poland, Peru, China, Colombia, Germany, Spain, Korea, Belgium, Israel, United States, India, Russia, Bulgaria, Serbia and Ukraine will participate in this exhibition.
