Lima, Feb. 18 (ANDINA). Peru and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) promote cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear energy in Latin America by training government officials in the region.

Peru is hosting the “Regional Training Course on Tools and Better Practices for the Design of Technical Cooperation Projects,” from February 14 to 25 under the co-direction of Peruvian Nuclear Energy Institute (IPEN) and IAEA.

During the inauguration, the Director-General for Multilateral and Global Affairs in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Luzmila Zanabria, expressed Peru's support for the IAEA cooperation activities and the right of every country to the peaceful and safe use of nuclear energy and technology, based on international commitments.

This event brings together government officials from Argentina, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Haiti, Mexico, Panamá, Paraguay, Peru, Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, Uruguay and Venezuela.

Over the 50 years of cooperation in Peru, IAEA has executed many projects in important national development areas such as the improvement of native grains and cereals that helped make a serious impact in the fight against poverty in high-Andean regions.
