The opening ceremony was held on Wednesday, April 20 on Jorge Luis Borges Room with homages to Maria Elena Walsh and David Viñas.

Vargas Llosa’s participation in the book fair was marked by controversy after a group of Argentinean intellectuals sent a letter to the organizers asking them to lock his participation due to harsh criticisms regarding several governments in Latin America, including Argentina.

The Buenos Aires International Fair is the largest Spanish-speaking Fair in the world, and one of the most important cultural and editorial events in Latin America, where different authors, editors, booksellers, distributors, librarians, scientists and more than 1.2 million readers meet.

People can find books from everywhere in this fair, from Latin America and Europe, to African countries such as Senegal.
