Jacobson said the United States assumes an unalterable position regarding said issue as it is a problem between both of its partners.
“Our position remains the same. This is a problem between two of our partners. We do not want to change our position (...) We prefer that both countries negotiate a diplomatic solution in that matter,” she said.
Moreover, Jacobson noted that the United States “is very interested in Latin America” not only due to political, economic and financial topics, but also because the northern country has a significant Latin American population.
Speaking to the Peruvian press, Jacobson stressed the importance of their relationship with Latin America in matters such as trade, the fight against drug trafficking and climate change policies.
