The IX Latin Grammy nominee and foremost representative of contemporary Andean music in Peru, Damaris, has been selected to represent Peru on the occasion of the Virgen de la Candelaria nomination as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity before Unesco.

Damaris will perform today at the Paris-based Unesco headquarters in front of 950 member countries’ delegations gathered as part of the IX meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.

The representative of Peru's country brand Marca Peru is currently in Paris as part of her tour of Europe that kicked off on November 15.

Damaris has already given concerts in Madrid, Sevilla (Spain) and Italy and is scheduled to perform in Zurich (Switzerland). Her European tour will end in Madrid, where she will make a second stop.

The show features a new repertoire of songs for those who enjoy the fusion of Peruvian music.

“This is my first cultural visit to Europe; I will play the best of my fusion repertoire and include a number of songs from different regions of Peru,” she said.

Besides her Latin Grammy nomination, Damaris has also won the 2008 coveted 'Silver Seagull' award for best folk singer at the Viña Del Mar International Song Festival in Chile.
