Peru is set to attract tourism-based revenues up to US$ 45 million within the framework of the upcoming 20th Conference of the Parties (COP 20), the annual United Nations climate change conference.

“We have to display the best performance both in logistics planning and arguments in support of action on global climate change as the world will be watching,” said Ana Jara Velasquez, President of the Peruvian Ministerial Cabinet.

After recalling the international conference was declared of national interest by the Humala administration in 2013, Jara stressed that an additional revenue totaling US$ 10 million across the inner regions of the country.

Speaking at the press conference “COP 20 moves forward”, the high-level government official pointed out Peru holds the suitable conditions to organize large-scale events such as the UN’s premier climate summit which is slated to be in the nation’s capital Lima in December this year.

Likewise, she stated the activities related to the completion of the UN event, are part of concerted efforts which seek to provide a safe and comfortable stay to the more than 15,000 participants who are set to gather in Lima for the climate debate.

It is worth mentioning Peru plays a triple role in the realization of the COP20, as chairman of the event country, host nation and as part of that conference.
