Peru expresses condolences over flood-related deaths in Brazil

The Government of Peru, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on Friday expressed its condolences over the deaths that occurred due to flooding in Rio Grande do Sul, southern Brazil.

This message was issued by the Peruvian government agency on the X platform (formerly Twitter).

"The Government of Peru laments the loss of human lives caused by flooding in Rio Grande do Sul; it expresses its deepest condolences to the victims' relatives, as well as solidarity with the Government and people of Brazil in the face of these lamentable events," the post reads.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry —through its Consulate General in São Paulo is closely monitoring the situation in order to assist and support compatriots who may be affected by this event.

In this regard, the consulate has been assisting two Peruvian students. Similarly, it maintains permanent communication with them and their families in Peru.

As is known, the intense rainfall caused at least 29 deaths and 60 people are missing in the southern state of Brazil.

According to Brazilian authorities, the rainfall affected more than 71,300 people in 154 municipalities.
