The President of the Republic Dina Boluarte on Friday indicated that her administration will not weaken efforts to reverse the figures recently released by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) on poverty and extreme poverty in the country.

"From the Government, we will continue to defend democracy, governability, the institutional framework, and constitutional order; without rest or distractions of any kind, we will continue to double our efforts with the aim of reversing the adverse numbers referring to poverty and extreme poverty reported by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI)," she said.

The Head of State specified that the causes of said figures are due to the country experiencing political and social upheaval in December 2022, as well as in January and February 2023.

"The economic figures from this political upheaval, of nearly 500 demonstrations, all of them violent, have been economically stronger than the COVID-19 pandemic; then, we had the problem of (Cyclone) Yaku and other events as a consequence of it," she added.

In this sense, the Head of State affirmed that respect for the Constitution, the democratic maturity of politicians, the rule of law, and national unity are important, "so that the country can move forward, as well as reduce this poverty and extreme poverty gap."

"We will continue working tirelessly, for the more than 33 million Peruvians; we are not going to become distracted by minor issues; we believe in justice in the country and in the reasonableness of those who administer justice in the country; in this regard, this Government will continue to bet on democracy, respect for the Constitution, and making our homeland greater," she concluded.

Remarks were made during her opening speech at the international seminar "Political Constitution, Democracy, and Institutional Values" organized by the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights in the Peruvian capital, Lima.
