Peruvian exporters and participating companies are expected to close deals worth over US$80 million at the 2017 edition of Peru Moda & Peru Gift Show, Peru's Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru) projected.

"This figure —similar to the sum reached in Peru Moda 2016— comes at a time when the [textile and garments] sector hopes to resume its normal exports levels," PromPeru Exports Director Luis Torres affirmed at the opening of the event.

Peru Moda 2017 opened on Wednesday and runs thru April 7 at Lima Convention Center.

According to PromPeru, the event's business roundtable will convene 250 exporters and close to 700 international buyers.

Half of said customers are directly financed by PromPeru. From this group, 260 come from the Americas, 70 from Europe and 14 from Asia.

The event will also feature 500 national buyers.

Participants

Economies participating in Peru's leading fashion event include: Germany, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, South Korea, Costa Rica, Denmark, Ecuador, Spain, the United States, France, Italy, Japan, Mexico, the Netherlands, Panama, Poland, Portugal, the United Kingdom, Czech Republic, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland, and Uruguay.

Similarly, Peru Moda will welcome world-class brands —from 29 countries— like Roberto Cavalli, The Apparel Group, Cavalheiro, Pierre Cardin, American Colors and Frame, among others.

The U.S. stands out as the largest business delegation with 131 members. International purchasers were invited by Peru's Trade Offices abroad (OCEXs).

Peru Moda's business roundtable is expected to host 5,000 meetings.

Activities

Peru Moda & Peru Gift Show activities will also include the 'Trends and Techniques' International Innovation Forum and the 1st Technological Innovation Contest.

The forum seeks to share topics like technological advances in the textile industry, as well as trends in technical textiles and leading markets in the sector with national entrepreneurs and exporters.

Trends and Techniques will feature speakers from Argentina, Canada, Spain, the United States, Italy, Israel, Japan, Portugal, the United Kingdom and the Inca nation.

On the other hand, the Technological Innovation Contest will recognize the most innovative textile project from a total of 40 ventures.

Projects develop fresh initiatives in terms of fibers, production processes and designs.

Designer alliance

Lastly, the Peru Textiles area will showcase a collection designed specifically to start internationalizing the country's textile and fashion offer.

The zone was conceptualized by the Alliance of Peruvian Designers, a partnership of Peru's top 17 designers created "to generate synergies and good practices related to [fashion] design and trade matters."

Peru Moda and Peru Gift Show are organized by PromPeru with the support of the Foreign Trade and Tourism Ministry, the Foreign Affairs Ministry, the Association of Peruvian Exporters (Adex), Lima Chamber of Commerce (CCL), as well as the National Society of Industries (SNI).
