Copper led Peru's exports in 2017 with sales worth US$13.773 billion, private-run National Society of Mining, Oil, and Energy (SNMPE) reported.
In this sense, said shipments accounted for 51% of
total mining exports worth US$27.159 billion at the end of last year.
According to the guild,
copper shipments made up 31% of Peru's total exports (US$44.918 billion) in 2017.
Foreign sales of the red metal (US$13.773 billion) experienced a 35.4% growth compared to the amount registered in 2016.
The main target markets
for said exports were Brazil, China, Germany, India, Japan, and South Korea.
More copper production
The National Society of Mining, Oil, and Energy (SNMPE) also highlighted
national copper production amounted to 2.44 million MT in 2017, a figure that reflects a 3.9% increase compared to the 2.35 million MT registered in 2016.
The main copper-producing regions were Arequipa, Apurimac, Ancash, and Cusco, which accounted for 70% of the red metal production.
